Studying abroad can get expensive. I’ve been there and bought the t-shirt (I even have the student loans to prove it). The experience is worth it, especially if you qualify for some of the amazing scholarships that will minimize the extra costs. In this series of articles we’re focusing on some of the top scholarships for studying abroad (during your undergraduate degree, as a gap year and potential fellowships/scholarships for graduate and professional study). The competition for most of these is fierce so check out the run down and see if you qualify before spending the extra time and effort going through the application process.
This week we focus on the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) Scholarship for African American, Hispanic American and Native American students. This scholarship awards grants up to $2,000 per calendar year to full time undergraduates who have been accepted to a study abroad program in Turkey. It requires that students applying be planning on studying for a year, semester or summer and acknowledges that award amounts will vary with length of study.
To qualify for one of the 100 TCA Scholarships offered each year a student must:
Submit a completed application form with picture;
Submit documentation verifying acceptance into a study abroad program in Turkey, TRNC or in Bosnia Herzegovina (a copy of the acceptance letter from the school or organization with whom student’s will be studying in Turkey is preferred);
Submit a resume (must be on one single-sided 8.5x11 sheet of paper; and
Submit an official transcript (must be original and cannot be sent separately.
Along with this, applications must be submitted to Diversity Abroad and must be complete (incomplete applications won’t be considered).
This scholarship has the ability to award $2,000 for a year abroad in Turkey, definitely worth the effort and capable of making your time abroad a great experience without breaking the bank. Good luck!
