Jordan's Bio
   Jordan Steinfeld
   May2, 2011

Name: Jordan Steinfeld

Education: BA, University of the Pacific; MS, New York University

Study Abroad Location(s): Chengdu, China and Tel Aviv, Israel

Best Moment Abroad: Its impossible to pick! Last year I did a sunset climb of Mt. Sinai (and a night trek back down) which was truly amazing. I've also had a lot of great birthdays abroad; I turned 18 at the top of the eiffel tower, 21 on a beach in Thailand, and 24 on a road-trip through the west bank.

Hardest Moment Abroad: Anecdotally I'll say that showing up in Chengdu not being able to speak any chinese (except how to count to three and a word I thought meant "mushroom") was pretty hard, though it all worked out in the end. Realistically, I'll say that challenging moments tend to be very personal and difficult to put into words, I've faced a lot of challenges in the time I've spent abroad and know that those experiences have shaped the type of resource and support system that Indelible International will be for the students who use it.

Why did you start Indelible International: To put it simply, I got tired of not having what I needed when I went abroad. Every year hundreds of thousands of students travel around the world to study, work, intern, and volunteer. This is a real community of people (of which I am a part) who face real challenges both while they're abroad and when they get home. After spending years in the travel section of the bookstore, days searching the internet, and hours on lengthy emails offering advice to friends of friends of friends who were getting ready to travel through some part of the world I had already visited, I realized there had to be a better way.  My co-founder, Sandra Alves, and I spent some time discussing it and came to the conclusion that it was time to take the future into our own hands and step forward to give this community of amazing, boundary pushing individuals the guidance and support that they need to survive and thrive during their time abroad and beyond.

There is a lot of be said for learning as you go and at Indelible International we're not trying to take away from that experience for students, we just want to give them the support they need to hit the ground running.

What Else Should We Know?: I mean, a lot probably. Luckily there's plenty of time for finding out as Indelible International grows. For now take a look at my official bio and (as always) contact us!

Jordan's Official Bio: Jordan has spent the majority of her adult life studying, living, and working internationally.  An avid traveler, Jordan lived in Tel Aviv, Israel while obtaining her MS in Management from NYU. While completing her BA in International Relations and Global Studies Jordan went on academic trips to Kenya and Rwanda where she was part of a team that studied sustainable development. In addition she attended conferences around the world including one in Beijing, China. In addition, Jordan studied abroad in Chengdu, China and traveled extensively through South East Asia.  While at the University of the Pacific Jordan founded the Model United Nations Club and Team and was among the leadership of other student run organizations. Jordan has worked in both the public and private sectors including interning in the US Department of Homeland Security’s Office of International Affairs and volunteering at the African Refugee Development Center in Tel Aviv.  She knows first hand just how difficult it can be to prepare for a trip overseas, academic or otherwise, and is excited to bring her expertise as a global nomad to the Indelible International family.
