Name: Ally Pirret
Education: BA in International Relations and Global Studies and Spanish, University of the Pacific
International Volunteer/Internship Experience: Intern at Madres de Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Best Moment Abroad: There have been a lot of epic “how did I get here?” moments, but my favorite moments were the times when porteños would ask me for directions and I actually knew the answer. Those tiny triumphs always kept me going through the more difficult times.
Hardest Moment Abroad: Showing up in Argentina and immediately realizing that five years of classroom Spanish had little to do with the castellano rioplatense spoken in Buenos Aires. That being said, it was pretty gratifying about a month after I arrived when I overheard a couple arguing on a bus and realized I understood everything they were saying.
Why did you join the Indelible International Team? Indelible is a great resource, one that I wish had existed when I was trying to navigate my way through the study abroad experience. Being able to help others have a more rewarding and less daunting study abroad experience is an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.
What Else Should We Know? Bidets are great for washing off your feet.
