Name: Jordan Steinfeld

Education: BA, University of the Pacific; MS, New York University

Study Abroad Location(s): Chengdu, China and Tel Aviv, Israel

Best Moment Abroad: Its impossible to pick! Last year I did a sunset climb of Mt. Sinai (and a night trek back down) which was truly amazing. I've also had a lot of great birthdays abroad; I turned 18 at the top of the eiffel tower, 21 on a beach in Thailand, and 24 on a road-trip through the west bank.

Hardest Moment Abroad: Anecdotally I'll say that showing up in Chengdu not being able to speak any chinese (except how to count to three and a word I thought meant "mushroom") was pretty hard, though it all worked out in the end. Realistically, I'll say that challenging moments tend to be very personal and difficult to put into words, I've faced a lot of challenges in the time I've spent abroad and know that those experiences have shaped the type of resource and support system that Indelible International will be for the students who use it.

Why did you start Indelible International: To put it simply, I got tired of not having what I needed when I went abroad. Every year hundreds of thousands of students travel around the world to study, work, intern, and volunteer. This is a real community of people (of which I am a part) who face real challenges both while they're abroad and when they get home. After spending years in the travel section of the bookstore, days searching the internet, and hours on lengthy emails offering advice to friends of friends of friends who were getting ready to travel through some part of the world I had already visited, I realized there had to be a better way.  My co-founder, Sandra Alves, and I spent some time discussing it and came to the conclusion that it was time to take the future into our own hands and step forward to give this community of amazing, boundary pushing individuals the guidance and support that they need to survive and thrive during their time abroad and beyond.

There is a lot of be said for learning as you go and at Indelible International we're not trying to take away from that experience for students, we just want to give them the support they need to hit the ground running.

What Else Should We Know?: I mean, a lot probably. Luckily there's plenty of time for finding out as Indelible International grows. For now take a look at my official bio and (as always) contact us!

Jordan's Official Bio: Jordan has spent the majority of her adult life studying, living, and working internationally.  An avid traveler, Jordan lived in Tel Aviv, Israel while obtaining her MS in Management from NYU. While completing her BA in International Relations and Global Studies Jordan went on academic trips to Kenya and Rwanda where she was part of a team that studied sustainable development. In addition she attended conferences around the world including one in Beijing, China. In addition, Jordan studied abroad in Chengdu, China and traveled extensively through South East Asia.  While at the University of the Pacific Jordan founded the Model United Nations Club and Team and was among the leadership of other student run organizations. Jordan has worked in both the public and private sectors including interning in the US Department of Homeland Security’s Office of International Affairs and volunteering at the African Refugee Development Center in Tel Aviv.  She knows first hand just how difficult it can be to prepare for a trip overseas, academic or otherwise, and is excited to bring her expertise as a global nomad to the Indelible International family.

Name: Sandra Alves

Education: BA, University of the Pacific

Study Abroad Location(s): Brussels, Belgium and Seville, Spain

International Volunteer/Internship Experience(s): Extended study of Human Rights and the case study of Morocco through a Seville, Spain study abroad program including in country research/experience in northern Morocco and a volunteer experience in Brussels, Belgium with a local human rights organization assisting Kurdish refugees.

Best Moment Abroad: It’s extremely difficult to pick one!  But I might have to say a few are definite highlights.  One that comes to mind are my last night in Northern Morocco when we wrapped up our hike and days events with all of us sitting around a camp fire and sharing stories while staring up at the awe inspiring Moroccan sky.

Hardest Moment Abroad: My hardest moment while abroad would have to be the ever present fear that something would happen to a family member while abroad and that there would be little I could do to help.  Everything was fine looking back but the fear definitely influenced and affected my time abroad.

Why did you start Indelible International: I got tired of not being able to refer the friends, friends of friends, and all the others who have contacted me since my first experience overseas for my opinion/advice and assistance in planning their experiences to a user friendly comprehensive online resource. It seems strange that every year hundreds of thousands of students travel around the world to study, work, intern, and volunteer yet a quality and comprehensive online resource does not exist for them.  This is a real community of people and we face real challenges both while we're abroad and when we get home.

What Else Should We Know?:  Tons, I’m sure.  The globe is changing and with it come changes to the lives we lead and challenges we face in being global citizens.  We’re learning all we can about the trials, adventure, and highs and lows of the community.  The issues we face, from relationships to health and fitness are wide in scope and span a large community of people.  In bringing Indelible International into fruition we aim to be the best resource out there for you so if there’s something you think we’re missing or something you think we need to focus on or try out let us know!

Sandra’s Official Bio: Sandra’s passion for social entrepreneurship has guided her actions academically and beyond. While completing her BA in International Relations and Global Studies at the University of the Pacific Sandra was instrumental in establishing several organizations on campus including the Center for Social Entrepreneurship. While at University, Sandra studied abroad in Seville, Spain, and Brussels, Belgium. She also completed academic trips to Morocco and Costa Rica. Following graduation, her strong beliefs in the value of social entrepreneurship lead her to the Central Valley Autism Project where she serves as team manager and works to maintain the company’s 1:1 autistic services curriculum. Based on her 5 years of social entrepreneurship experience Sandra is particularly excited to be one of the founders of something as unique and important as Indelible International.

Name:  Ally Pirret

Education:  BA in International Relations and Global Studies and Spanish, University of the Pacific

International Volunteer/Internship Experience: Intern at Madres de Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Best Moment Abroad:  There have been a lot of epic “how did I get here?” moments, but my favorite moments were the times when porteños would ask me for directions and I actually knew the answer. Those tiny triumphs always kept me going through the more difficult times.

Hardest Moment Abroad: Showing up in Argentina and immediately realizing that five years of classroom Spanish had little to do with the castellano rioplatense spoken in Buenos Aires. That being said, it was pretty gratifying about a month after I arrived when I overheard a couple arguing on a bus and realized I understood everything they were saying.

Why did you join the Indelible International Team? Indelible is a great resource, one that I wish had existed when I was trying to navigate my way through the study abroad experience. Being able to help others have a more rewarding and less daunting study abroad experience is an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

What Else Should We Know?  Bidets are great for washing off your feet.

Ally’s Official Bio:  Ally is no stranger to international travel. While obtaining her BA in International Relations and Global Studies from the School of International Studies at the University of the Pacific she studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, backpacked through South America and attended a conference in Beijing, China. Immediately following graduation, Ally worked as an intern at the International Rescue Committee. Since that time she has been lending her international expertise and unique point of view to InterConnection, an NGO based in Seattle, Washington. As Managing Director she brings an exciting level of expertise, knowledge, and dedication to the Indelible International team.
